Acceptable use policy

I Am Mate is a friendly, non-sexual chat app with AI characters. This policy says what you may and may not do with it. It's part of our terms of service.

What the app is for

Casual conversation, company, practising a language, talking through your day, and learning about the characters' jobs and hobbies. It is not a dating app, an adult or NSFW service, or a replacement for professional help.

Not allowed

• Sexual, explicit or NSFW content of any kind: sexual roleplay, sexually suggestive messages, nudity, or requests for revealing photos. Characters refuse and change the subject, and this can't be switched off.
• Romantic or dating roleplay, including asking a character to be your girlfriend or boyfriend.
• Any content that sexualises or endangers minors. We remove it, close the account and report it where the law requires.
• Harmful content: encouraging self-harm or suicide, violent extremism, hate or harassment, or threats against anyone.
• Help with anything illegal or dangerous: weapons, drugs, hacking, fraud, or harming other people.
• Impersonating real people or making characters based on real people (public figures included) without their permission.
• Trying to get around the safety rules ("jailbreaking"), the message limits or payment, or scraping, reselling or automating access to the service.

Images

Characters can share pictures of everyday activities, such as cooking, working or going for a walk. They're picked from a fixed set of images we made in advance. Every one is labelled "AI-generated image", shows a fictional adult who is fully clothed, and is never suggestive. You can't make the app generate images from your own descriptions.

What happens if the rules are broken

Characters are told to decline and steer away from anything on this list. If an account keeps trying, we may limit, suspend or close it without a refund for the current period. Serious cases, such as anything involving minors, may be reported to the authorities.

Reporting a problem

If a character said something harmful or inappropriate, please tell us: support@iammate.com. Include the character's name and roughly when it happened. If you or someone else is in danger, use the helplines on our safety page.
